Myanmar COVID-19 Emergency Assistance, Food distribution to families with children with disabilities

We have distributed packages of 10 kg of rice, 1 litter of oil, 30 eggs, 1.6 kg of chickpeas and 1.6 kg of potatoes. AAR Myanmar Office's staff took measures to prevent the spread of infection, such as wearing a mask while delivering these food packages.  (Yangon, Myanmar, May 8, 2020).

In Myanmar, COVID-19 is affecting the daily life of everyone, and especially those we have been supporting since before the pandemic are currently facing even more difficult situations.

Distributing food for families facing severe economic difficulties

AAR has been providing rehabilitation and educational assistance for children with disabilities since 2001. In this emergency assistance, we distributed relief items to families with children with disabilities and those who became critically economically disadvantaged or aren’t in the scope of  governmental aid.

Many of the families we support make their living from day labor at construction sites or small family businesses. However, due to the suspension and restriction of businesses and outings issued as COVID-19 preventive measures by the government, some have lost his/her jobs or incomes, and some even have struggled to put food on the table. In response to that, AAR conducted emergency food distribution on May 8th and 9th, delivering packages which contain rice, chickpeas, and eggs to 15 families.

We will continue our emergency food distributions. We kindly ask for your warm support. Thank you.
